Limits of Confidentiality & Informed Consent in Pastoral Counseling

Informed Consent in Pastoral Counseling, 1.5 hours

Cost:  $200 total for 1-3 participants;
$50 per person for groups of 4-9;
$480 for 10 participants + $30 per additional participant

Intended audience: Pastors & credentialed church leaders

In Pastoral Care/Counseling, it is foundational to set the “frame” of your time together with the parishioner.  We will discuss why this is not only essential to the integrity of the pastoral care/counseling process, but to the integrity of the pastor, herself/himself.  While “informed consent” is common (and in some cases, legally necessary) within secular counseling, it remains seldom practiced within settings of pastoral counseling – despite the great potential for benefit and enrichment of the work.

In this 90 minute webinar, we will discuss some of the issues that should be included at the outset of – or better yet, before – pastoral care/ counseling ensues.

Learning Objectives:

We will discuss:

defining the pastor’s approach to/philosophy of care/counseling;

the pastor’s qualifications (and limits of scope/competence);

the limits of confidentiality (e.g., clergy mandatory reporting)
– differences between secrecy vs. privacy vs. confidentiality within a system

duration/course

benefits & (less obviously) risks on pastoral care/counseling

…and more…

Don’t miss this “informative” talk on informed consent
