You’ve seen it all before: The double-binds; the intensity; the manipulation; the power-plays; the rage; the rigidity; the instability; the black-and-white thinking; the defensiveness; the intractable self-righteousness; the danger… It’s time to talk about Personality Disorders in the Church.

Learning Objectives:

Managing “difficult personalities” in Ministry Leadership is the name of the game.  Personality Disorders are long-standing behavior and thought patterns that can cause significant impairment or disturbance in interpersonal or intra-personal functioning. Dynamics created through PD can wreak havoc within church systems, especially when pastors do not understand the internal drama and the effects of PD.

In this 90-minute live web conversation (for educational purposes only), we will discuss the nature and characteristics of three very difficult personality presentations: “Big Personalities” (read: narcissism) , “Boundary-Pushing Personalities” (borderline configurations), & “Let-Us-Prey” personalities (Antisocial PD). Healthy boundaries and pastoral self-care practices in ministry management will also be discussed.

Intended audience:  Pastors (ordained or licensed church leaders)
